Open Up a World of Possibilities With Your Child's Library Card!
Giant City School is part of the Illinois Heartland Library System’s SHARE network! This exciting partnership means our students have access to millions of books from libraries all across Illinois.
Here is what you need to know about how this amazing program works:
- Library Cards: All K-8 students will receive a library card to check out the 4,000+ books right here in our own library. Starting in 3rd grade, students will learn how to navigate the SHARE system to request materials independently.
- Daily Deliveries: Thanks to the IHLS delivery vans, books requested from other libraries will come and go every day! Because SHARE does not restrict requests, we encourage our students to self-select materials that spark their unique interests.
- Borrowing Guidelines: Students can borrow up to 3 items at a time for 14 days.
- Note for Kindergarten-2nd graders: Our youngest readers will start by borrowing one book at a time, moving up to three as they build great library habits!
- Taking Care of Our Books: To keep our library thriving, families will be responsible for the replacement costs of any items that are not returned in good condition.
We can't wait to see where these millions of stories take our students. Happy reading!
